Why is the price of stainless steel watches so different?

- Mar 21, 2019-

The development history of watches, as early as in the middle and late fifteenth century, has been recorded in the history books. Until now, the materials of watches and clocks have been constantly updated. Nowadays, the materials of watches and watches are generally made of stainless steel, and some of them are made of gold, carbon fibers, luminous materials (such as fluorescent coating materials), silica gel and ceramics. At present, most of the stainless steel used in watches and watches is 304, 316L.

Stainless Steel Watch

Generally speaking, the life surface of domestic brand watches is stainless steel, most of which are 304 stainless steel. 304 stainless steel in the process of use, there are wear, a little rust phenomenon, which is very normal, unless the watch material is electroplated surface treatment process, otherwise it can basically kneel in two or three years, the price of these watches is not expensive, basically not more than a thousand; and generally high-end some will use 316 stainless steel, the so-called "one cent for one purchase", the better the quality of stainless steel. So the longer the life of the watch will be, the more expensive the price will be. But the price of the two watches will not be too different. So why do some watches cost tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands?

Regardless of luxury materials such as diamonds and gold, the stainless steel for watches made by high-end brands is not 304 or 316, but 904L low-carbon high-nickel stainless steel called super stainless steel. The greatest feature of this stainless steel material is that its nickel content is as high as 25%. We all know that the nickel content of stainless steel can determine its corrosion resistance. Sea area will inevitably be corroded by salt in the air, and 904L low carbon high nickel stainless steel can resist all kinds of acid and alkali dilute solution, not to mention some seawater? And processing formability is better than ordinary stainless steel materials, can make a variety of complex parts.

Rolex, the world's famous watchmaker, uses this super stainless steel. Besides brand effect, Rolex's watches are more directly related to the precipitation of watchmaking technology and luxury of material. This can also explain why the price of watches made of stainless steel is as different as that of watches made of stainless steel.
